More info

Water-transfer helmet decal representing the insignia of the DRK, the Deutsches Rotes Kreuz, featuring a red cross with a central swastika. This type of marking is associated with German medical and auxiliary personnel of the period and is clearly distinct from the standard military decals of the Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine, Polizei and SS.

The Deutsches Rotes Kreuz carried out medical, assistance and support duties, operating in connection with both military and civilian structures. DRK personnel could be involved in casualty transport, medical aid, hospital services, medical logistics, relief work and emergency response in areas affected by air raids or other wartime situations.

The decal with red cross and central swastika belongs to the specific visual language of German medical services during the period. The red cross indicated the medical and assistance function, while the central swastika reflected the organization’s integration into the symbolic and institutional system of the Third Reich. When applied to a helmet, it allowed quick identification of personnel or equipment connected with medical services.

This decal is intended for application on German helmets compatible with DRK configurations, including civilian, medical, paramilitary or military helmet types reused according to context. Exact configurations could vary depending on the period, the function of the wearer, the helmet type and local methods of applying insignia.

Unlike branch or combat-organization decals, the DRK insignia had a different visual function: it did not identify a combat formation, but a medical and relief organization. This makes the decal especially distinctive among German helmet markings, both for the presence of the red cross and for its connection with medical and assistance services.

Water-transfer decals consist of a thin printed film applied to a paper backing. Before application, the decal should be immersed in water for about one minute, allowing the printed film to separate from the backing paper. The decorated layer is then carefully slid onto the helmet surface, aligned correctly and left to dry completely.

Once dry, the decal adheres to the helmet surface. To improve durability and protect the decoration from handling, dust or light rubbing, a thin clear protective coating may be applied with a brush. This step is optional, but it can help preserve the finish over time.
