Water-transfer helmet decal representing the national shield associated with the Spanish volunteers of the División Azul, in the single-decal version without black border. This variant differs from bordered versions by the absence of the outer black outline, giving the shield a cleaner and more direct appearance on the helmet surface.

The División Azul, also known as the División Española de Voluntarios, was a formation of Spanish volunteers integrated into the German Army during the Second World War. Incorporated as the 250th Infantry Division, it operated mainly on the Eastern Front between 1941 and 1943, retaining a strong Spanish national identity while serving within the German military structure.

The Spanish helmet decal reflects this national identity through the shield bearing the colours of Spain. In the single-decal configuration, the helmet carries only this side insignia, without being paired with a second decal on the opposite side. It is therefore a simpler arrangement than double-decal versions, in which the Spanish shield could appear together with other insignia.

The absence of the black border is the main identifying feature of this version. The outline of the shield appears less emphasized and visually cleaner, creating a different appearance compared with bordered variants. This detail is important for distinguishing the different types of Spanish helmet decals associated with División Azul volunteer configurations.

This decal is intended for application on German M35, M40 and M42 steel helmets, as well as on helmet configurations connected with Spanish volunteer equipment. Like other helmet decals of the period, its use formed part of the visual identification system adopted by units, formations and foreign volunteer contingents within the German military apparatus.

Water-transfer decals consist of a thin printed film applied to a paper backing. Before application, the decal should be immersed in water for about one minute, allowing the printed film to separate from the backing paper. The decorated layer is then carefully slid onto the helmet surface, aligned correctly and left to dry completely.

Once dry, the decal adheres to the helmet surface. To improve durability and protect the decoration from handling, dust or light rubbing, a thin clear protective coating may be applied with a brush. This step is optional, but it can help preserve the finish over time.
