More info

Water-transfer helmet decal representing the insignia associated with the SS-Verfügungstruppe, commonly abbreviated as SS-VT. The SS-VT was a militarized SS formation developed during the 1930s as an armed and military-trained force, later forming one of the main cores from which the fighting units of the Waffen-SS emerged.

The SS-Verfügungstruppe was intended as a military-trained force available for deployment according to the needs of the regime’s political and military leadership. During the 1930s, several organized formations were created, including the Standarten Deutschland, Germania and Der Führer, which became some of the principal original units of the SS-VT system.

The SS-VT helmet decal belongs to the symbolism of early SS helmet configurations used before and during the first phase of the Second World War. Applied to the helmet surface, it identified affiliation with the SS-Verfügungstruppe and distinguished it from the standard decals of the Heer, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine or other organizations.

This type of decal is mainly associated with German steel helmets used by militarized SS formations before the full establishment of the Waffen-SS designation. The SS-VT took part in the early campaigns of the war and represented one of the organizational foundations from which the later fighting formations of the Waffen-SS developed.

Water-transfer decals consist of a thin printed film applied to a paper backing. Before application, the decal should be immersed in water for about one minute, allowing the printed film to separate from the backing paper. The decorated layer is then carefully slid onto the helmet surface, aligned correctly and left to dry completely.

Once dry, the decal adheres to the helmet surface. To improve durability and protect the decoration from handling, dust or light rubbing, a thin clear protective coating may be applied with a brush. This step is optional, but it can help preserve the finish over time.
