More info

Water-transfer helmet decal representing the red Feldherrnhalle shield, with an architectural reference to the Feldherrnhalle in Munich and the SA symbol. This decal belongs to the distinctive helmet configuration of the SA-Standarte Feldherrnhalle, a formation connected with the Sturmabteilung and characterized by its own specific symbolism.

SA Feldherrnhalle helmets were generally configured with two side decals: one side carried the shield with central swastika, while the opposite side carried the red Feldherrnhalle shield with the building and SA symbol. In the most commonly indicated arrangement, the red Feldherrnhalle decal was applied to the wearer’s right side, while the shield with central swastika was placed on the left side. Inverted configurations are also known, connected with variants, reissued helmets or different methods of application.

The Feldherrnhalle in Munich, located on Odeonsplatz, acquired strong symbolic importance within the political and commemorative imagery of the regime after the events of November 1923. The use of its image within the shield of the SA-Standarte Feldherrnhalle directly reflected this connection and distinguished these units from other formations of the Sturmabteilung.

The red Feldherrnhalle decal should not be confused with the opposite shield bearing the central swastika. The two insignia formed part of the same double-decal configuration, but had different visual functions: one referred to the broader political symbol through the swastika shield, while this decal specifically identified the Feldherrnhalle reference and the association with the corresponding SA formation.

This decal is intended for application on German helmets compatible with SA Feldherrnhalle configurations, including paramilitary, civilian or military helmet types reused according to context. Because of its red design with building and SA symbol, it represents one of the more distinctive paramilitary helmet markings of the period.

Water-transfer decals consist of a thin printed film applied to a paper backing. Before application, the decal should be immersed in water for about one minute, allowing the printed film to separate from the backing paper. The decorated layer is then carefully slid onto the helmet surface, aligned correctly and left to dry completely.

Once dry, the decal adheres to the helmet surface. To improve durability and protect the decoration from handling, dust or light rubbing, a thin clear protective coating may be applied with a brush. This step is optional, but it can help preserve the finish over time.
