The SS Honour Dagger, also known as the SS Service Dagger or SS-Ehrendolch, was introduced in December 1933 as a ceremonial edged weapon and uniform accessory. Its design followed traditional European dagger lines, with a double-edged blade, black grip and nickel-plated or silver-toned fittings depending on the production period and variant.
Its most recognizable features included the historical motto etched along the blade, the black grip fitted with political eagle and SS insignia, and the black lacquered metal scabbard with metal mounts. Early examples were commonly marked by individual makers, while later production increasingly used RZM codes, especially from the late 1930s onward.
Rather than being intended primarily as a combat weapon, the dagger served as a ceremonial, representative and uniform item. For collectors and military history enthusiasts, the SS Honour Dagger remains a significant reference piece within the study of German dress daggers, regulated production systems and ceremonial edged weapons of the early to mid-20th century.
