We know for sure that only 50 copies of this medal were coined by the firm S. Johnson of Milan, even if no trademark is present on it. This certainly makes it one of the most rare military medals in the world.
Two writings on this medal bear two errors.
Mistakes that contribute to increase the curiosity around this medal.
The two incriminating sentences read: "FREIWILLINGEN BATAILLON DER WAFFEN" and "ALWAYS FAITHFUL TO THE DUCE AND TO THE FUHERER".
Here we discover the first of the two errors present on this medal: the word "Waffen" alone means "weapons" and in fact the Germans always accompanied it to the abbreviation "SS" to indicate the fighting units of the SS.
The second error is in the spelling of the word "FUHERER", which instead had to be written correctly "FUEHRER".
