This Model 1933 SS Dagger was developed as a special factory project using higher-grade materials and a more substantial construction than ordinary production pieces.
Only two prototype examples were manufactured. The model will not enter regular production: once these two pieces are sold, there will be no further production and no future restock.
Each dagger is therefore one of only two pieces created during this particular experimental stage of our manufacturing work.
The design follows the historic SS-Dienstdolch Model 1933, introduced on 15 December 1933. Its shape belongs to the same family as the SA service dagger introduced at the same time and ultimately derives from German and Swiss Renaissance daggers, particularly the type commonly known as the Holbein dagger.
One of the defining characteristics of the SS pattern was its black-and-silver colour scheme. The dark grip and black scabbard contrasted with the bright metal fittings, immediately distinguishing it from the brown appearance of the corresponding SA dagger.
For this prototype, the grip is made from genuine wood, shaped into the characteristic narrow-waisted profile and finished in gloss black. The use of real wood gives the dagger a distinctly different weight, feel and material character from grips manufactured from synthetic materials.
Set into the grip are the two characteristic devices: the circular SS runes insignia near the upper section and the metal eagle positioned centrally.
The grip is completed by polished metal fittings, including the distinctive curved lower crossguard and upper fitting, secured through the central assembly and pommel nut.
The black metal scabbard is fitted with bright metal throat and lower mounts. The upper fitting carries the traditional suspension ring used to attach the dagger to its hanger.
The blade is made from steel, with the straight, double-edged profile, symmetrical point and slight central ridge characteristic of the Model 1933 design.
One face bears the historic motto:
“Meine Ehre heißt Treue”
“My honour is loyalty”
The reverse carries the RZM M7/13 marking.
Historically, M7/13 was assigned to Arthur Schüttelhofer & Co. of Solingen-Wald, a company also known through its ASSO trademark. Established in the early 1920s, the firm operated within Solingen’s long-established edged-weapon and cutlery industry and later participated in the manufacture of political daggers.
The RZM marking represents the later phase of SS dagger production. Early examples from approximately 1933–1935 generally carried the commercial trademark of the individual maker. As production became increasingly centralised, Reichszeugmeisterei manufacturer codes replaced many of these traditional maker marks.
An important historical feature of the SS service dagger was the manner in which it was worn and awarded. The right to wear it was associated with a member’s final acceptance into the SS, rather than simply initial entry, and presentation was traditionally connected with the annual 9 November ceremony.
A second pattern was introduced in 1936, distinguished particularly by its elaborate chain suspension, while the Model 1933 retained the simpler single suspension ring on the scabbard.
For this prototype we deliberately selected genuine wood, a steel blade, metal scabbard and polished metal fittingsto produce a more substantial construction based on traditional materials. Both pieces were individually assembled and finished as part of a tiny experimental factory run.
The defining feature of this version is its absolute production limit: only two examples were made. These are not the beginning of a new series. Once the two existing pieces are gone, the project will be permanently closed and this exact dagger will never be manufactured or restocked by our factory again.
