More info

This decoration was made but never delivered. The only known specimen was discovered by allied occupation forces and was handed over to the West Point Academy collection. The general design resumed that of the Star of 1914 but included the 1939 Iron Cross in the center. It was expected that this decoration would be pinned like the First Class Cross, but how the Great Cross was not meant to reward acts of courage on the field. It was designed to reward, after the war ended, the most victorious general officer.
