German uniform button measuring approximately 24 mm, with a silver-coloured finish and finely pebbled background. The front depicts an eagle with outstretched wings holding a swastika in its talons, a design used on various political, governmental and administrative uniforms during the Third Reich period.

German uniform button from the Third Reich period, featuring a convex construction, an approximate diameter of 24 mm, a silver-coloured finish and a finely pebbled background. The front displays an eagle with outstretched wings, holding a swastika between its talons.
This type should be distinguished from the standard pebbled Wehrmacht field-uniform buttons, which generally did not carry a figurative eagle emblem. Buttons displaying an eagle and swastika instead formed a broader category used on various political, governmental and administrative uniforms. Different versions existed according to the organisation, manufacturer and period of production.
Its diameter of approximately 24 mm identifies it as a principal uniform button, normally used for the front closure of tunics, service jackets or overcoats. Smaller versions could be fitted to pockets, shoulder straps and other parts of the uniform.
Numerous manufacturers produced buttons of this general pattern. The face could be made from stamped metal or assembled from multiple components, while the reverse normally carried a metal attachment shank. Original examples may also bear manufacturer names, commercial markings or codes associated with the RZM production system.
The silver-coloured finish distinguished this version from gilt or darkened examples, whose use varied according to the organisation, type of uniform and contemporary dress regulations. The eagle holding a swastika served as a state and political emblem and appeared on a wide range of uniform accessories, headgear insignia, belt buckles and administrative fittings.
