WWII German Feldgendarmerie Armband – Extremely Rare
Issued to soldiers temporarily attached to the German Army’s military police, this armband identifies those assisting the Feldgendarmerie during active policing duties.
Formed in August 1939, the Feldgendarmerie drew most of its personnel from the civil Order Police. Their responsibilities were broad:
– Military traffic control
– Discipline enforcement
– POW escort
– Civilian supervision
– Rear area security
– Anti-partisan operations
They had the power to search people and locations, and their ranks often outranked regular military personnel. Initially using police uniforms with added army insignia, they soon adopted distinct army attire, including gorgets, sleeve badges, and this distinctive armband.
