More info

Today we finished producing our latest creation: the department badge of the Autonomous Company “NAZARIO SAURO” of the 10th MAS Flotilla.

I dedicate it to my father, who passed away a few days ago, with whom I consulted every time we released a new product, and every time I had a doubt, when I needed help or even just when I needed to feel supported. I hope that, from up there, he can see and continue to be proud of me and of the company born from his courage.

This badge, made with obsessive care, faithfully reproduces every detail of the authentic version: materials, enamels, dimensions and colors are identical to the original. Even on the back, the pin and the hook are hand-welded, just like in the historical example. It is a product that required commitment and dedication, and we are truly proud of it.

THE AUTONOMOUS COMPANY “NAZARIO SAURO”

Founded in Pola in September 1943, immediately after September 8, and made up of volunteers who chose the Italian Social Republic. It operated until May 3, 1945 in the same city.
The name paid homage to Nazario Sauro, an irredentist lieutenant who fell in 1916, hanged by the Austrians in Pola for high treason against Austria after his voluntary transfer to the Italian Royal Navy.

ACTIVITIES AND SYMBOLISM

The badge uses irredentist motifs: an eagle grasping a snake coiled around a torch, a symbol of freedom and independence, framed by laurel and oak, with the tricolor and the writing “POLA 8 SEPTEMBER 1943 – HONOUR AND COMBAT”, superimposed on an anchor (a symbol of the Navy) without a Savoy crown.
The Xª MAS stands out for its daring exploits: it often penetrated well-defended enemy ports and sank imposing ships such as cruisers and battleships, totaling over 100,000 tons sunk between 1940 and 1943.

FATE OF THE COMPANY

The “Nazario Sauro” company was disbanded on May 3, 1945, at the end of the RSI, coinciding with the advance of the partisans and the Allies in Pola.
